Description

The most elementary oil color combinations should contain the following colors: cadmium yellow, ocher yellow, cadmium red, alizarin carmine, lapis lazuli, titanium white, or Mars black. You can use a combination of all these colors to create any color in the color wheel. (Example: red and yellow together to make orange).

You don’t need many brushes to get started, but get a few of each type. Start with the different sizes of round, flat, and erect brushes.

Make a sketch. Use a coarse pencil to create a light sketch of your subject.

Start coloring. You can choose any coloring technique you like, whether it’s coloring entire sectors to completion or layering color all over the canvas. When using oil colours, use the thick-over-thin method, where you apply the lighter color first before applying the thicker colour.

To lighten the texture of your colors, use a mixing agent (linseed oil or turpentine) and mix it with your colours. Don’t use more than necessary as a start, but keep adding more gradually until you reach your desired consistency.

It takes three days for a layer of color to dry enough to add a second coat on top, so be patient while you wait for your colors to dry.

Try different techniques like blending, polishing, and stippling.

This kit contains every basic tool you could need as a beginner to get into the world of oil painting and all primary colors for mixing.
